Type: Hybrid (Sativa dominant)
Genetics: [Colombian x Mexican] x [Thai x Afghani]
Despite its agressive name, the AK-47 strain has many positive qualities. The strain was named after the Russian Kalashnikov rifle for the "one hit" effects that the strain offers. Ranking as one of the most well known strains in the world, AK-47 is a sativa-dominant hybrid (60%/40%) that also has a substantial indica presence, giving it a balanced head and body high. AK-47 is one of the most awarded strains in history, and as an interesting side note, despite its hybrid status the strain has won both sativa and indica categories in recent years.
Looks and Smell
The AK-47 strain produces dark, resinous, compact buds that bristle with red hairs and glistening trichomes. Large calyxes, wide girth, and considerable height are also common characteristics of the AK-47 strain. The strain has garnered the nickname "Winter Wonderland" due to its white coloring and smooth smoke. The buds display a spicy skunk-like aroma interspersed with hints of sandalwood, pine, some light citrus tones, and a strong, skunky, diesel finish.
The euphoric nature of this sativa dominant hybrid is second to none. The AK-47 buzz is immediate and long lasting (2-3 hours) with an alert yet mellow cerebral effect. Some call the strain a "one hit wonder" due to its consistent 20%+ THC content. I actually needed 2-3 hits for it to really kick in, but I have an incredibly high tolerence. The taste is suprisingly sweet and floral, not overtly strong, but was pleasing and extremely smooth.
Overall I really loved the euphoric nature of AK-47. This effect died down considerably in the second hour with no significant come down, and left me in a smooth relaxed state for another 90 minutes or so. AK-47 has been found to be helpful in the treatment of chronic pain, nausea, depression, insomnia, headaches, PMS, and arthritis. So if you're looking for a mental kick or a decent mood enhancement, AK-47 is the strain for you.
