Type: Hybrid (sativa dominant)
Genetics: OG Kush x Sour Diesel
For years now I have been under the assumption that Chemdawg was just another name for Sour Diesel (Sour D). I used either strain name to describe this destinctive bud, depending on which name I felt at the time would impress the group of smokers I happened to be with. Now, this rarely ever happens, but as it turns out I was wrong. Although the two strains are very similar, there are in fact some differences, especially as far as the effects go. Most sources trace the origions of Chemdawg back to the early 1990s' Grateful Dead tour circuit.
Looks and Smell
Typically Chemdawg buds have a sativa-like appearence. Sativa strains tend to be sloppier looking, and the buds will have a more loose appearence and feel as compared to those strains that have more indica traits. The lime green color will immediately catch your eye, but it's the bright red hairs and sugary exterior that will have you tearing the bag open with reckless abandon. The smell contains a lemon-like sour aroma, with spice and heavy earthy scents to even out the bouquet.
Soon after the first inhale, Chemdawg provides a rush of energy that instantly overtakes your head. This seems to be a typical effect of any Sour D strain. However the big difference between Chemdawg and Sour D is that Chemdawg has an additional strong body-melt effect due to the OG Kush lineage. This leaves users with a more euphoric experience than the Sour D strain alone tends to provide. The taste is spicy and earthy at the same time. The smoke is thick and leaves a long-lasting diesel fuel aftertaste that is very unique.
I have always been a big fan of any strain that has Sour D in its liniage. It just always seems to put me in the right place. That being said, Chemdawg does not dissapoint. I feel as though Chemdawg might even have a step-up on Sour D due to the addition of OG Kush in its genetics. Chemdawg is excellent in the treatment of muscle and joint pain, mood disorders, glaucoma, anxiety, and nausea. All in all Chemdawg is an extremely effective strain in treating many ailments. This and the fact that Chemdawg can be found on most dispensaries' menus make it a go-to strain for connoisseurs.
