The Colorado Rockies are embracing their home state’s new legislation by opening a marijuana dispensary right in their Coors Field stadium. Rocky Mountain High will feature select local strains, edibles made by Colorado-based companies, and even offer a selection of weed-infused beer.
Having already embraced alcohol as the main sponsor for their home field, it’s no surprise that the forward-thinking state’s home team would also embrace its new favorite recreational activity.
Team officials said it was hard to overlook the possible income that could be generated from a venture such as this. It will also appeal to a new, younger demographic, since attendance at Rockies games has been dwindling.
“We knew people were going to bring weed to the games,” said Rockies Manager Walt Weiss. “Why not regulate it like alcohol and benefit from it in the process?”
Cannabis-themed give-a-ways are in the works, and weed-based competitions will be held between innings to promote the new dispensary and embrace the state’s new law. There is even a newly bred strain, “Peyton Manning”, that will be offered exclusively at Rocky Mountain High.
Much like alcohol, marijuana will not be sold after the seventh inning, ensuring that baseball fans are less likely to drive home under the influence.
