Name: White Widow
Type: Hybrid (sativa dominant)
Genetics: Brazilian Sativa x South Indian Indica
White Widow is a sativa-dominant hybrid (60/40). This famous strain was frequently mentioned on the TV show Weeds, as well as the lyrical inspiration for many rap artists. The strain first burst onto the scene in 1995 and immediately took Cannabis Cup honors.
Looks and Smell
As the name implies, White Widow is so covered in crystals and resin that the buds look like they were completely dipped in sugar. The smell is incredibly strong and pungent, with pepper and pine undertones. Last time I traveled with this strain, I tripple bagged it then put in a tupperware container. The smell in the car was still overwhelming... Good thing I'm such a good driver!
Pick your poison with this strain. The sativa and indica effects both become noticeable upon smoking. I know the breakdown says 60% sativa and 40% indica, but honestly the effects feel more like (50/50). The smoke is sweet and coats the throat with an almost sugary taste. The inhale starts out smooth but expands quickly, so be prepared to cough. The effects can be very uplifting and euphoric at first, but sit in one place for too long and couch-lock is a definite possibility.
White Widow is most popular in Europe. This strain sits atop most Amsterdam coffeeshop menus. However if you look hard enough, it can be found in the states, too. It's popular among medical cannabis users in the treatment of: anxiety, PTSD, chronic aches and pains, appetite, as well as migraines. The notorious strain deserves all the hype that comes with it.
